Choosing the best type of camping: A comprehensive guide

Just imagine the first sip of coffee in the morning while watching a beautiful sunrise and listening to the sounds of birds waking up from sleep just as you did. Spending time in nature is a fantastic experience. Camping is a beautiful activity for nature lovers and those who want to enjoy the great outdoors and all of its benefits.

When in nature, you spend the day entirely differently than you’d do it in the city. There’s no technology around you, and often, your phone picks up no network. There’s no internet, and you’re left to fully inhale the fresh air and experience raw nature.

Since there are many ways to enjoy the great outdoors and camp, you should pick the one that suits your idea perfectly. In this article, we share six different ways to do it. We will explain what they are, and based on this information, you can choose how to spend your next camping trip. Follow up and learn more about this subject.

Classic Tent Camping

You can say that this is the traditional camping solution. One or more people spread out the tent in a designated place in nature, where they can sleep, find shelter in case of rain or snow, and feel at home inside.

Most people who choose tent camping will have the tent packed in a backpack, walk to a place where they feel it’s best to set it up, and after they are done camping, they’ll pack everything again and go back to civilization.

This is the most common way of camping. Everything that is needed apart from the sleeping place is also carried by hand, which is why in most cases, people tend to go lightweight and spend most time enjoying nature.

We have made plenty of tent recommendations in the past, but recently I started to recommend tarp tents or trekking pole tents more and more: best trekking pole tents. The reason for this is simple, it’s lighter and doesn’t have too many negative aspects.

types of camping

Car Camping

This option means driving to a designated place and sleeping in a tent on top of the vehicle. Many people choose to install a tent on top of the vehicle’s roof, while some only use the car for transporting goods while sleeping in a tent installed on the ground.

Choosing this type means packing much more items and enjoying the benefits of technology. Just a half-canopy toolbox is enough to store tools, camping and hiking equipment, utensils, plates, glasses, and everything else that is needed for a comfortable stay in nature.

However, you could also just sleep in the back of your car if it’s big enough. It will not be the most comfortable experience, but it is incredibly convenient. We usually do this when we are on our way to reach our destination, but need a couple of hours of sleep.

RV, Van, or Bus Camping

For those who love traveling through the almost never ending country roads but are not huge fans of sleeping outside, there’s the option of camping in an RV, van, or bus. Modern RVs and vans are designed to feel like home while being able to take you anywhere you want.

Many people spend their vacations in these types of vehicles, traveling around the continent and enjoying different cultures and sights. Every day can be a different camping experience.

Others will choose a beautiful location and spend a few days there. It may be a beach, a mountain spot, or anything else. An RV, a van, or a bus can be used as a remote house where all the necessities for modern living are met.

Survival Camping

How about camping without anything to support it? Unlike the previous options in which you have many items to back your experience, in survival mode, you only have your clothes. This is the ultimate lightweight backpacking and camping.

In survival camping, you find natural shelter. It may be something you’ll build from branches and leaves, a cave, or something similar. Sudden night temperature drops and extreme weather conditions may harm you, so be sure you’re experienced and ready for such a challenge.

Glamping

On the other side of the spectrum, and opposite to survival camping, there’s glamorous camping or glamping. The popular form of camping means going in nature like a king. In this form of camping, you’ll install an enormous tent and decorate it with a mattress, pillows, and even curtains.

Many people will spend their days drinking champagne, eating caviar, and sleeping in tents with power generators, fridges, and indoor toilets. Of course, all this requires extensive preparations and more people to help with transport and installation.

Backyard Camping

Finally, there’s the backyard camping option. Instead of spending time hiking through mountains or driving for hours to get to a desired place, you spread out your tent in your backyard and enjoy spending time outside your home.

This idea is excellent for those who are not searching for adventures. Everything’s predictable in this form of camping, but you still get to enjoy the outdoors. Kids love this idea, as they can go back to the house at all times. Adults also enjoy it because of the same reason. It’s nice to be outside and pretend you’re in nature while always having the option to go back if something unexpected happens, like rain or snow.

For this tyoe of camping you don’t need the best outdoor tent either, you can go with a more convenient and cheaper options: The popup tent.
